Why an engagement session should be on your must do list!
San Francisco Engagement Session
Congratulations! The bubbles have been popped, the ring has been shown off and now the planning begins! Yay!
Maybe you have dreamed of this moment your entire life? You've had your color scheme, flowers, dress, picture perfect venue all picked out since you were a teenager :)
Maybe you couldn't care less about any of those things and just cant wait to exchange vows with the love of your life? Which ever one of these scenarios or anywhere in between, my advise on this is the same. An engagement session is a must!
I think we decided to meet in San Francisco on the windiest day of the year for Carol and Kevins engagement photos! Bonus no fog, the hilltops were perfectly clear! As crystal clear as the love between Carol and Kevin! The excitement for their upcoming wedding was obvious in their sweet interactions!
We started at Ina Coolbrith Park, for some amazing views of the downtown area! We chatted about how they met, 1st dates and all about their proposal.
These conversations really helped to get to know each other! What better way to find out if we are a good match. You will be spending a lot of time with your photographer on your special day its a good idea to make sure your personalities click.
Which is my tip #1 Get to know each other!
Its also a good time for your photographer to see how you operate. Some things are not always verbalized or explained easily but seeing the ways couples communicate and interact with each other helps to set a tone for the day. Are you both excitable and energetic? Is one of you more shy and reserved? However it may be sometimes you just have to see these things in order to understand and meet their comfort level.
Tip # 2 Practice
This is a 2 for one!
Practice posing, see which images you like best from your session and talk about those before the big day! Maybe you discover that you have a good side, or that you guys are really good at the dip! or my personal favorite the almost kiss!
This makes wedding day portraits go a little smoother when we can say remember you know how to do this!
Practice your hair and makeup! Try out your artist, make sure they can create a look you're going to love. Especially if you don't have this done often, it can feel like a lot maybe too much, but seeing how it looks in photos can help put you at ease.
You will never again be at this stage in your life!
Tip #3 Document it!
What are your favorite places?
Things to do?
Outfits to wear?
Believe it or not these things change. Even if you dont plan to make many changes after the wedding life just naturally has a way! This to me is the best part of photography, being able to capture a moment in time that we cant get back. Trust me you will want to look back at this time in your life.
Carol and Kevin choose one of their favorite beaches as one of their locations! How memorable, there may be day when they say "oh remember when we used to go to that beach all the time?" Now they have the pictures to prove it! And they also have a great story to go with it, because.... it was so windy you couldn't even see right in front of you. We had to cut the session short because of all of the wind! I cant even tell you how much sand I eat and brought home in my shoes! Its a session I know I will never forget!
Have you already had your engagement session done? Did I miss any important tips? I would love to hear your opinion.
